Artistic research in optical media

Artistic Research in Optical Media will be celebrated from October 25th to the 28th with two workshops: "Taking Shades and Making Silhouettes" (25th at 2pm and 5pm), with Mark and France Osterman, a workshop where we'll capture profiles by drawing them with charcoal on paper by candle light and then use a pantograph to make a miniature of it with a finishing technique with Indian ink; and "Seductive Artefacts: Paradigms of Representation and Perception 1637 - 1860" (26th - 28th at 5pm), with Rod Bantjes and Ana David Mendes, where we will explore old media devices and learn about how artefacts like cameras obscuras and optical boxes are used to help us think about how we perceive the world.
